This two day (weekend) course is aimed at beginners who would like to learn how to use lime mortars, and how to tackle areas of repointing and bricks that are spalling.
The course will be run at the Waltham Abbey Royal Gunpowder Mills, a site of national significance for the history of explosives in Europe. This unique site contains a number of brick features, in various states of repair, demonstrating a range of issues that can be found within historic brick buildings.
The course will be led by Mac Knox-Weir. Mac us one of the highest qualified bricklayers in the UK, and has spent over 40 years working with brickwork, including the repair of historic buildings. His experience includes work on many of the Royal Palaces, including Hampton Court, where he has been responsible for repairing and rebuilding sections of specialist brickwork.
No previous experience necessary.
