St James’ Chapel Bat Surveys

Place Services has provided services to English Heritage after St James’ Chapel suffered significant storm damage to its roof in late 2024. The chapel is Grade I listed and a Scheduled Monument, and the severity of the damage required a rapid process to facilitate repair. Place Services completed bat surveys during the winter of 2024-25 and summer of 2025, which found minor Natterer’s bat hibernation roosting and a small maternity roost of brown long-eared bats. The European Protected Species mitigation licence application prepared by Place Services was approved and the licence was issued by Natural England well in time for the planned start of works.
