Animal Rescue at County Hall!
Posted: 30 April 2026
Recently we've been head over heels for a family of Mallard ducks who've been nesting on the 4th floor terrace at County Hall 🦆
As much as we would've loved to keep them, an office block is no home for baby ducklings. Luckily our team of ecologists were on hand to save the day! First, licensed bird ringer Neil had to safely catch and ring mother duck, with help from assistant consultant Hallie. The ring information will contribute to our understanding of national declines in the Mallard population. Then it was time to round up the 11 ducklings hidden around the terrace - a task easier said than done!
We're pleased to report that mother and babies have been returned to their natural habitat in one of Chelmsford's parks. And they all lived happily ever after... 🧡
