The Landscape Character Assessment of the Essex Coast document, was a project that aimed to collate current information about the landscape character of the Essex coast in a structure designed to help inform future planning decisions. The landscape character assessment describes areas in terms of their typical geological, topographical, ecological, archaeological and cultural features. It provides an extended overview from Thurrock, part of the Thames Gateway, in the south to Harwich and the Stour Estuary bordering the county of Suffolk. It analyses the Essex coast and provides visual data and links to further information available through Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
The project was part funded through SAIL (Schéma d’Aménagement Intègre du Littoral)
In 2006 the interactive CD received a highly commended award from the Landscape Institute.
