Zara Hanshaw

Zara joined Place Services in 2019 after completing a Masters in Biodiversity and Conservation at the University of Leeds. She has a particular interest in reptiles and her Master’s thesis involved creating habitat suitability models for herpetofauna in Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Zara also has a keen interest in the use of canines for scent detection of protected species and has trained a dog to detect the presence of hedgehog faeces. 

She has previously worked for the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust assisting in the implementation of management plans for local nature reserves and engaging the public in the Trust’s key principles.

Her role involves assisting the Ecology team to provide advice in relation to planning applications, highway schemes and protected species conservation.
