Basildon Borough Landscape Sensitivity Assessments

Basildon Borough Council commissioned Place Services Landscape Team in April 2025 to undertake a Landscape Sensitivity Assessment (LSA) on 47 identified sites. The landscape sensitivity assessment is intended to provide context for policies and proposals within the emerging Basildon Borough Local Plan, particularly in relation to built development. The assessment assesses landscape sensitivity to housing development, employment development, plotland infill development and alternative sites (sites outside of the ‘preferred’ locations for housing).

Following on from this work, Basildon Borough Council asked the Landscape Team in January 2026 to provide an addendum to the work focusing on 12 specific SHELAA sites within sites H27 and H24.

Both assessments are available to the public and form part of the evidence base for Basildon’s forthcoming Local Plan.
