Public Art Programme Development

Place Services work with clients and artists in a range of different ways, tailoring programmes to the needs and end-users of a project, whether a new or existing building, public space or natural environment.

Learning Environment Programme

Essex County Council has an established programme of commissioning art within learning environments through its Art and Architecture programme initiated in the 1980s. The programme has continued to develop and listen to the voices of the students and staff in the design of their learning environments; building understanding of how spaces work and providing a legacy through the public art by encouraging creativity in the curriculum and establishing significant sense of ownership and pride within the schools and their communities.

For an example of our learning environment programmes, search for public art on our projects page or similarly you can click here.

Public Realm Programme

The ‘Genius Loci’ programme was a series of curated commissions within the public realm which saw the collaboration with Highways, Transportation and Regeneration teams and Local Authorities in the delivery of integrated public art projects within the public realm.

The integration of public art and creative-led developments has continued to evolve, stand-alone artworks alongside programmes where creative practitioners are part of the design team.
