Katie Smith-Lee

Katie joined Place Services in January 2018 as Junior Historic Environment Consultant, and has since become Historic Environment Consultant. 

Katie has undertaken a wide range of commercial excavations across the south and east of England, leading a number in East Anglia. Prior to this she did her Archaeology Bachelors at Durham University specialising in Medieval architecture and Pictish standing stones. Katie completed a Masters course in Museum Studies at Leiden University where she also worked as a research assistant. This course involved interning at the British Museum and the MAA Cambridge. Her passion to help preserve cultural and archaeological heritage has led her to undertake work with the Caribbean NEXUS project and various assignments in the Netherlands and Greece.

In her role as Historic Environment Consultant, Katie provides development control and planning advice within Essex, and supports with the Essex Historic Environment Record. Katie also undertakes project work for our Local Authority clients in Essex, London, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and West Sussex, including DBAs, Conservation Area Appraisals and Historic Building Recording.
