Mark is an archaeologist with over 12 years professional experience, including an extensive background in fieldwork and historic building recording. He has detailed knowledge and experience of excavation and surveying techniques. He has managed archaeological sites throughout Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire, including substantial excavations at Colchester Garrison, which included the Scheduled Monuments of St John’s Abbey and Colchester Roman Circus.

Mark contributes to the delivery of specialist archaeological and historic environment planning advice for Place Services to local authority clients, and the strategic development of the Essex Historic Environment Record.

Since joining Place services Mark has been leading on the archaeological advice to Chelmsford City Council and Horsham in West Sussex.

As a historic building recorder Mark has worked on many and diverse projects throughout East Anglia including scout huts, barn conversions, former public houses, timber-framed and brick structures, ecclesiastical structures, listed buildings and Scheduled Monuments such as Hedingham Castle.

Mark has authored a number of excavation projects including the archaeological programme undertaken at Brightlingsea Quarry between 2013 and 2018.
